Acrylic resin is a general term for homopolymers and copolymers of acrylic acid and derivatives. The homopolymers are: poly(methyl)acrylic acid and its salts, poly(methyl) acrylate, butyl ester, polyacrylamide, polyacrylonitrile, etc. Different copolymers and ratios can be selected according to different purposes to obtain more copolymer varieties. In a narrow sense, acrylic resin mainly refers to polymethacrylic acid and its salt, which is a polyelectrolyte whose properties are affected by pH. Different polymerization methods can be used to obtain resins of different forms such as solid, solution, and latex. Suitable for a variety of purposes.
Acrylic resin can be further divided into thermoplastic acrylic resin and thermosetting acrylic resin according to the difference of structure and film formation mechanism.
The thermoplastic acrylic resin does not undergo further crosslinking during the film formation process, so its relative molecular weight is large, with good gloss and color retention, water and chemical resistance, fast drying, convenient construction, easy construction recoating and rework. There is also good whiteness and good positioning of the aluminum powder when preparing the aluminum powder paint. Thermoplastic acrylic resins are widely used in the fields of automobiles, electrical appliances, machinery, and construction.
The thermosetting acrylic resin refers to a certain functional group in the structure, and forms a network structure by reacting with a functional group in the added amino resin, epoxy resin or polyurethane during the painting, and the thermosetting resin generally has a relatively low molecular weight. Thermosetting acrylic coatings have excellent fullness, gloss, hardness, solvent resistance, weather resistance, no discoloration when baked at high temperatures, and no yellowing. The most important application is the combination of amino resin and amino-acrylic baking varnish. It is widely used in automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, coiled steel and other products.
