Why is Polyvinyl Butyral resin added to ink printing?

By adding an appropriate amount of polyvinyl butyral, the adhesion, toughness and durability of ink printing can be significantly improved.

Polyvinyl Butyral resins (PVB resin for printing inks) are used in flexographic printing, gravure printing, relief printing, screen printing, and thermal transfer printing in the ink printing industry.

Because Polyvinyl Butyral resins can be completely dissolved in alcohols and the printed parts do not have residual odor, they can be used for odor-sensitive outer packaging in the food industry, such as tea/cigarette outer packaging. And because Polyvinyl Butyral resins are cationic resins and the glass surface layer contains strong anions, they have very good adhesion and are particularly suitable for glass plate decorative screen printing.

Polyvinyl butyral is divided into high viscosity and low viscosity, respectively, between 1-260 seconds. Low viscosity is suitable in the field of inks. Low viscosity Polyvinyl Butyral resins have good wetting and dispersibility of pigments and fillers, leveling properties, and excellent adhesion to materials such as PET, PA/paper, and plastics. Therefore, they are suitable for flexible printing and gravure printing inks. At the same time, Polyvinyl Butyral can be dissolved in environmentally friendly solvents (ethanol).
