1. What is Chlorinated polypropylene
Chlorinated polypropylene (also called CPP resin) is a thermoplastic resin obtained by chlorination modification of polypropylene (PP), and is widely used in coatings (mainly composite inks) and adhesive industries. The research and development of chlorinated polypropylene began in the 1960s. It was first industrialized in the United States, and then Japan and other countries successively built production facilities. Domestic production began in the late 1980s.
2. What types of Chlorinated polypropylene are there
Currently, iSuoChem divides CPP into three categories:
2-1. Low chlorine Chlorinated polypropylene (chlorine content below 28%).
Low chlorine CPP can be used in ink and coating industry.
2-2. Ordinary benzene-soluble Chlorinated polypropylene (chlorine content 28%-35%)
2-3. Ordinary ester-soluble Chlorinated polypropylene (chlorine content is about 36%-40%).
At present, ordinary benzene-soluble CPP and ester-soluble CPP are used in large-scale practical applications, mainly used in the ink industry.
2-4. In addition to conventional products, there are also some products with special high chlorine content(more than 40% chlorine content), all of which are modified products.
High chlorine Chlorinated polypropylene is mainly used in paints and fireproof coatings. Due to the competition from various products such as chlorinated rubber and chlorinated ethers, as well as their own technical reasons, they have not been used in many practical applications.

3. Performance of Chlorinated polypropylene
CPP is non-toxic and can be dissolved in solvents such as halogenated hydrocarbons and toluene. Depending on the chlorine content, its melting point is generally 80-160°C, and its decomposition temperature is 70-160°C. Products with low chlorine content begin to decompose slowly when the temperature reaches above 40°C, and the decomposition speed is extremely fast when the temperature reaches above 70°C.
(Warn Tips: Transportation and storage need to consider temperature issues, so as not to cause product agglomeration due to excessive temperature, causing customer complaints)
4. Three main forms of Chlorinated polypropylene
As the most important Chlorinated polypropylene company in China, iSuoChem mainly provides three forms of CPP:
4-1. White irregular solid (expanded material).
4-2. White or light yellow powder (powder material).
4-3. Yellowish granules (granules).
According to a comparison of product performance, powdered CPP is easier to dissolve than granular CPP. However, the chemical stability of granular CPP is better than that of powdered CPP, and it has better solvent release properties.
5. Applications of Chlorinated polypropylene
iSuoChem's main Chlorinated PP customer direction is printing ink, with a focus on BOPP composite ink.
Due to its excellent adhesion to polypropylene surfaces, as well as good adhesion to various materials such as polyethylene, paper, and foil, Chlorinated PP is widely used in the printing ink, plastic, and metal bonding industries. Its hardness, abrasion resistance, saltwater resistance, and aging resistance are also good, making it particularly suitable for producing packaging industrial printing composite BOPP film, PP film-paper, PP film-aluminum, and other composite materials using printing ink.
In addition, CPP also has some applications in coating pigments and waterproofing agents. Due to the presence of chlorine atoms on the molecular chain of chlorinated polypropylene, it is also used as a flame retardant agent.
Due to the fact that ink is a product made up of a combination of various chemicals, and different chlorinated polypropylene prepared by different processes or companies may have slight differences in quality, the application of CPP requires ink users to make corresponding formulation adjustments.
Typically, it is used together with MP45, EVA, CEVA resins in an amount of 3% to 8%.
