Why use Slip additive (Slip agent)?
When it comes to the world of film production and filamentous products, slip additives play a crucial role. These additives help reduce friction during polymer processing, ultimately improving the quality and efficiency of the production process.
In polymer processing, friction can be a major issue, arising from two sources: internal friction between polymer molecules and external friction between the polymer and various surfaces like machine parts. This friction can lead to energy loss, increased processing costs, quality control issues, and damage to the polymer's molecular structure.
To tackle these challenges, slip additives like Erucamide and Oleamide come into play. They are low molecular weight substances with low coefficients of friction and low melting points. These characteristics allow them to migrate to the product's surface after processing, creating a smooth gliding layer that reduces friction and improves product quality.
For industries that frequently use Polyethylene and Polypropylene resins in their packaging, waxes like erucamide and ethylene bis(stearamide) are commonly used as slip additives. However, it's important to note that the choice of slip additive can affect the product's printing quality.
How Slip Additives Work?
Slip additives work by acting as flexible buffers between polymer molecules and between the polymer and machine surfaces. They reduce internal friction by penetrating the polymer's spherical structures and releasing their arrangement. This cushion effect enables smoother movement between polymer molecules and structures.
Additionally, slip additives reduce external friction by quickly migrating to the polymer's surface and flowing along with it. They also bond to material surfaces, creating a low-friction layer on these surfaces.
Distinguishing Erucamide and Oleamide
Both Erucamide and Oleamide serve similar purposes and offer similar application properties. However, they have specific use cases. Oleamide, being more cost-effective, is suitable for finished products like blown films and plastic bags. On the other hand, erucamide, with its advanced properties, is ideal for enterprises producing plastic additives.

Conception |
Erucamide is prized for creating smooth, glossy surfaces, especially for grease bags. It also enhances transparency, reduces friction, and aids in mold separation for injection molding products. |
Oleamide is a product derived from natural fatty acids and finds various applications, including stabilizing porous structures, waterproofing paper, color dispersion in the textile industry, and acting as a plastic production thickening agent. |
Mechanism |
Similar to oleamide, erucamide has a non-polar straight chain and polar amide functional group, making it migrate to the resin's surface, improving smoothness, reducing friction, and aiding mold separation. |
Oleamide, with its non-polar linear structure and polar amide functional group, has a low molecular weight and a flexible chain. This allows it to migrate to the resin's surface, enhancing smoothness, reducing friction, and aiding in mold separation. |
Effect |
Erucamide improves resin flow, reduces defects, minimizes friction with machine surfaces, and enhances product gloss. |
Oleamide improves resin flow, reduces defects, minimizes friction with machine surfaces, and enhances product gloss. |
Applications |
1. Enhanced Film and Sheet Performance. 2. Improved Ink Functionality. 3. Enhanced Rubber Products. 4. Diverse Uses as a Lubricant and Release Agent. |
Commonly used in film and plastic packaging made from PE and PP, particularly for high-smoothness and transparent bags. |
Both iSuoChem® Erucamide and Oleamide, with their unique properties, can significantly enhance your polymer processing and product quality. The choice between them depends on your specific production needs and priorities.
